About the Project

The project investigated the role ethnic and cultural organisations play in British and German expatriate social networking in Asia to shed light on why ethnicity remains a key chain in their migratory experience, life and identity, as well as their interactions with the host society in Asia.

The research project was led by Dr Tanja Bueltmann, Associate Professor in History at Northumbria University. Tanja's research interests are in diaspora and wider British World history, especially the social history of British and German immigrant communities and their ethnic associational culture.

This section of the website will grow as outputs from the project continue to grow, showcasing research findings. As outputs and impacts are still being generated, please make sure to visit the site again to learn more about British and German migration to Asia and their ethnic associations.
